Title rivals draw blanks

Spencer looked to hold numerous good chances on paper and had a ride in every race. But the nearest he could manage was two second-placed finishes aboard Wild Bill Tracey in the opening five-furlong handicap and One Night In Paris in the extended one-mile handicap.

Sanders, who had four rides, was also hit with a three-day suspension for excessive use of the whip aboard third-placed My Mate Pete in the opener.
