New all–weather era beckons for Dundalk

Many of the big names in the sport, including top jockeys Kieren Fallon and Johnny Murtagh plus trainers Aidan O’Brien, Dermot Weld and John Oxx are supporting the new left-handed Polytrack circuit in County Louth.

An eight-race card with maximum 14-runner fields in seven of them kicks off at 2.30pm, with the feature event being the MCR Group EBF August Handicap over 10 and a half furlongs.

There are two British challengers going for the €49,000 first prize – the Karl Burke-trained Boo and All The Good from Gerard Butler’s stable.

Butler also saddles Bonus in the main supporting race, the MCR Environmental Mourne Handicap over six furlongs and Len Knights in division one of the MCR Civil Engineering Handicap over a mile.

Dundalk staged staged turf racing until 2001 and got the go-ahead for an all-weather track in September 2005 when Horse Racing Ireland approved maximum grant aid for the project.
