LESTER Piggott is making good progress from a recent heart problem and is likely to return to Britain “after the weekend”, according to close friend Sir Peter O’Sullevan.

Former commentator O’Sullevan has been a firm ally of the legendary jockey for over 50 years and was due to accompany him at Newmarket on Saturday for the inaugural ’Lester Piggott Day’.

However, a decision was taken on Wednesday to postpone the event and instead stage it in the autumn, when Piggott will hopefully be well enough to attend.
