SIR Peter O’Sullevan led the tributes to legendary Australian jockey Scobie Breasley, who died yesterday after suffering a stroke at the age of 92.

Breasley, christened Arthur Edward, was born in Wagga Wagga, New South Wales in 1914 and went to the top of the tree both in his native country and in England, where he was champion jockey four times.

His career also boasted five Caulfield Cups, two Epsom Derbys (Santa Claus in 1964 and Charlottown 1966) and a Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe (Ballymoss 1958) in a total of 3,251 wins. He also teamed up with such popular horses as Trelawny and Reform.
