Ceannas Major bounces back to form with Deise Cup success
Trained by Tim O’Donovan, he came up against Johnny Marshall in the final and led all the way to take the opening score by three lengths.
The winner was a 4-6 favourite in the morning and then 1-3 after his semi-final win. In his quarter-final he led Lakyle Henry eight lengths for the turn and when the pair collided the hare raced home. He was two lengths faster than the bitch Pimpers Paradise in the semi-final where they got a useful course before the hare made it home.
Johnnys Marshall had bye in his quarter-final with Gaytime Murty withdrawn, and had two turns. In the semi-final he accounted for the more fancied Glanmore Tango by a half a length when coming from behind.
The Ned Kiely Memorial Derby Trial Stake was won in impressive fashion by Two Excuses. It was a family affair for the Leahys of Glounthaune, Co. Cork with in-form trainer Donal turning out the winner for his father Liam.
Having put out the overnight favourite, Howya Jerry, by a length in the semi-final, he faced the Sean McGrath trained Ashfield Jimmy in the final and after coming from behind was up a length for the only turn.
Ann Fitzgibbon and Teresa Byrne from Newmarket, Co. Cork have quite a useful performer in Fitzbyrne Molly, who captured the Oaks Trial Stake.
The layers couldn’t split the winner (6/4 overnight favourite) and Howya Princess before the semi-finals, offering evens each of two.
The market rivals went on to meet in the decider with Fitzbyrne Molly taking control from the start. Howya Princess closed late on to get within a length at the escape, but never looked like troubling the winner.
