Missed That put down after breaking pelvis

WILLIE MULLINS' Missed That, one of the most promising young chasers in the country and a 20-1 shot for the Cheltenham Gold Cup, has had to be put down.

He won four times over fences last season, including two Grade One's at Leopardstown, the Durkan New Homes Chase and the Arkle, and rounded off his campaign with an impressive performance at the Punchestown Festival.

Speaking at Thurles yesterday, Mullins said: “He broke his pelvis at home this morning and, in breaking it, may have severed an artery.

“He worked at about 9.30 and everything seemed fine. By 10.15, however, we knew he wasn't right and at first thought it was a muscle problem.

“But it got worse by the minute and nothing could be done. He had huge ability and, I think, we had yet to see the best of him.”

Missed That won three Grade One's in all and, of course, was successful in the 2005 Cheltenham Bumper. Owned by Violet O'Leary, the seven-year-old carried the colours made famous by Florida Pearl and never ran over hurdles.
