Confuchius gives Ennis first Group win
The winner partnered by Willie Supple was hampered slightly inside the final furlong by Albert Einstein but that bump didn’t stop his momentum and the Cape Cross colt ran on strongly to score by ¾ length.
“I’m thrilled with that and he is my first group winner,” explained 60-year-old Ennis.
“He is a nice horse and he got a bump but he picked up again. He’s a horse that shows plenty of pace at home and he is one to look forward to for next year.
“That’s my last runner for the year so we’ll enjoy ourselves tonight.”
Galatee was sent off the 5/2 favourite for the Trigo Stakes but she faded into third place behind Arch Rebel, partnered by Johnny Murtagh. The bay rounded off a fine weekend for Noel Meade who has saddled nine winners since Saturday.
Aidan O’Brien, out of luck in the two big races, saddled a double.
Uimhir A hAon put her previous experience to good use when she saw off Truly Mine in the opening fillies maiden.
Seamie Heffernan went on to complete a double after Archipenko looked above average when he scooted clear to beat his rivals by six lengths in the colts maiden.
Hearthstead Dream looks one to follow when he goes back over hurdles after he ran out a comfortable winner of the finale for Dermot Weld and Pat Smullen.
Talihoya followed up her success at the Curragh last weekend when she was produced late by Rory Cleary in the seven furlong handicap.
Meanwhile at Galway Kahuna rattled off his hat-trick when he beat Cane Brake in the Killanin Stand Design Team Handicap.
The winner was sent into a clear lead after the third last by Paul Carbery and despite a gallant effort by the runner-up, the Dusty Sheehy-trained ten-year-old won well.
Local trainer, Martin Kelly, who got off the mark last week when Killeroran Kash won at Fairyhouse followed up when the mare partnered by Robert Power beat Whersben in the John Mulholland Bookmakers Handicap Hurdle.
The Bowe family could well have another star on their hands in the shape of Coolcashin who made every inch of the running to record an impressive success in the finale.
