Double delight and two course records for Dettori

FRANKIE DETTORI landed a 5-1 plus double on two horses that broke course records at Lingfield yesterday.

Double delight and two course records for Dettori

Despite the wet conditions, Descartes smashed the best time for mile and a half by a full second, while Rainbow Promises bettered the six-furlong record on the Polytrack surface by half a second.

The latter earned a 40-1 quote with the sponsors for the Stan James 1000 Guineas with a winning debut in the six-furlong Book Your Christmas Party Here Maiden Fillies’ Stakes.

As soon as Dettori took it up around the bend there was only one result and the Brian Meehan-trained 10-11 favourite sped away to score by five lengths from Laura’s Best.

Dettori said: “The trainer told me that she was very special and after that I cannot disagree with him.”

The Italian completed his brace on Godolphin’s Descartes in the NCP Space Proving Handicap.

Dettori settled his mount well and made his challenge two furlongs to score on the 9-4 favourite by a length from Transvestite.

Although having his first run for almost two years and just his second in all, the son of Dubai Millennium impressed with a time of two minutes 28.22 seconds.

Ted Durcan was also in double-winning form, to the odds of more than 11-1, on Hephaestus and Grand Show.

Hephaestus was at the head of affairs virtually throughout the lingfield park.co.uk Nursery.

Mick Channon’s gelding made a winning debut at the track back in March and again showed his liking for the all-weather surface in holding off Mac Gille Eoin by a neck, with a length back to La Quinta in third place.

Durcan never really had an anxious moment on the 7-2 favourite and it would not be surprising if he was back at the Surrey course soon.

The rider then denied Dettori a treble with a short-head victory over Special Lad on Walter Swinburn’s Grand Show in the Halloeen Family Fun Day Handicap.

The 7-4 favourite just held Dettori’s late challenge, although Durcan lost his whip in the closing stages.

Dab Hand was able to dictate matters in the Jumping Here On November 8th Median Auction Maiden Stakes.

The 9-4 shot, trained by David Simcock and ridden Ryan Moore, came home three-parts of a length in front of Simpsons Ross.

Simcock’s wife Jenny said: “He is as genuine as the day is long and has done the group who own him very proud.

“However, he goes to the horses in training sale and must go through the ring because he belongs to a syndicate. Hopefully some of them can buy him back as he will be a real fun horse as a four-year-old.”

Molen, the 100-30 favourite, has done well for his syndicate and he came up trumps once again in the Furlongs & Fairways Handicap for trainer Lady Herries and jockey Jamie Spencer.

The partnership held off Million Percent in a desperate finish by a short head in a race where they tended to idle in the opening stages.

Former BBC TV racing correspondent Julian Wilson, spokesman for the Seymour Racing Partnership, said: “He goes to the horses in training sale on October 26, but may run again three days before that.

“He has been a grand servant and Jamie was making that his second win on him.”

The closing seven-furlong Racing Here Again Tomorrow Handicap was won by 25-1 Keyaki for Chris Wall and Seb Sanders, who beat Neardown Beauty and Landucci by a short-head and a neck in an extremely close finish.
