Bookies clean up with Flash

THE John Oxx-trained Flash McGahon sprang a 20-1 shock in the Listed Danehill Dancer Stakes at Tipperary last night, as hot-pot Drayton trailed in a well beaten fifth.

Drayton was dropped in class and confidently backed from 4-5 to 4-6. But it was probably a case of going to the well too often and, after running prominently, he faded from the furlong pole.

In contrast, the eventual winner was full of running at this stage, as Fran Berry drove him for home.

Spirit Of Pearl, near the front throughout, kept going well with English challenger, Mood Music, doing his best work at the end for third.

“He's a smart horse”, reported Oxx.

“I thought this was a bit ambitious, but wanted to see him run again over five, he shows a lot of speed at home.

“He was a bit green the last day, but was ready for this. He may well be a five furlongs horse, but there aren't many Listed races at that distance. I suppose he will go next for the six furlongs Round Tower Stakes at the Curragh.”

Noplacelikehome has done the Tom Mullins yard proud this season and was on the mark again when easily taking the Ladies Day At Tipperary Rated Race.

Produced by Johnny Murtagh to lead just before the furlong pole, the three-year-old stretched away to beat Destiny Do Buy by a length and a half.

“Johnny is mad for him to go to Tralee for the Listed Ruby Stakes and that's probably next”, said Mullins.

Chief Crazy Horse, beaten at 1-3 at Cork, went off 4-11 in the Stonethrower Maiden, but made no mistake on this occasion.

Kieren Fallon gave those brave souls who waded in more than the odd anxious moment, as he found it hard to find a gap.

He switched to the outside approaching the furlong pole, however, and Chief Crazy Horse quickened up nicely and was well on top close home.

Aidan O'Brien trains Chief Crazy Horse and he and Fallon completed a double with Great Sphinx in the Irish Stallion Farms' EBF Maiden.

He never posed a threat when fifth to Xinji at Gowran Park previously, but stepped up considerably on that effort here.

Fast into his stride, the son of Giant's Causewway made just about all and had no trouble holding Eyshal.

Modeeroch, who has kept the best of company through the campaign, grabbed the Irish Stallion Farms' EBF Fairy Bridge Stakes.

Pat Smullen appeared to have stolen the contest when powering Cheyenne Star ahead with a furlong and a half to run.

But Modeeroch found a tremendous turn of foot for Kevin Manning to lead in the final stride and score by a short head.

Con Collins' Dandy May performed deplorably in the Nunthorpe Stakes at York, but at least the stable has an ounce of compensation when Numen took the Tipperary Co-op Hardware and Supermarket Nursery.

Siobhan's Pearl made a brave attempt from the front but Manning, completing a double, got a real tune from his colt to sweep ahead inside the furlong pole.

Declan McDonogh got on the scoresheet when powering 5-1 favourite Erra Go On to the front a furlong out to beat Vicky Lane in the Pride Of Tipperary Handicap.
