Tramore races get off to a flyer
The red-headed Meath man with a passion for the nags was celebrating on the double last night as he picked several winners and marked his birthday.
“I’m in my 30s and I’m saying no more. It’s a great way to celebrate, here in Tramore with the missus and the babies.
“We came down last night and went around Passage, Dunmore East and Tramore. It’s great countryside. A few winners in Tramore beats all. Small festivals like this one are what horse racing in Ireland is all about. The Waterford people are all out in force today and they’re all gunning for winners,” Hector added.
At the other end of the course, Waterford’s All-Ireland semi-final hurlers were also looking for winners. “Eoin McGrath is about the best man for the tips,” Tony Browne quipped.
“We’re looking for a few winners today after the heartbreak of the past few days. John Mullane does a bit of backing so we’ll be hanging on his every word too,” Browne added.
Racecourse manager Sue Phelan was out and about in her blue and white ensuring everything ran smoothly.
“A huge amount of work goes into the festival. We’re hoping for a great few days racing and crowds of 250,000 or more.”
Today is workplace group day on the course. Tomorrow Saturday is fashion evening with prizes worth €2,000 for the best dressed lady and gent.
Sunday is family day with the Lambert Puppet Theatre, bouncy castles and face painting along with a massive race card.
