Pitt eyes Hong Kong trip for Golden Jubilee winner Les Arcs
The Doncaster handler is targeting the lucrative International meeting in December after his six-year-old beat Balthazaar’s Gift a neck in the Group One contest.
Les Arcs was stepping up on his 11th place in Tuesday’s King’s Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot to give Pitt a Group One success in his first season as a trainer.
“He’s come out of it very well and I’m happy enough with him,” said Pitt.
“He’s a bit stiff and sore but he’s sometimes a bit like that after a tough race and he’s had two hard races in five days.
“We will have to have a think about where we go next but Newmarket for the July Cup would be the obvious choice as he’s a Group One winner now.
“I would think we would be looking towards Hong Kong later in the year now too.”
If Les Arcs heads to Newmarket on July 14, he could clash again with runner-up Balthazaar’s Gift as well as Australian raider Takeover Target.
And Pitt would be ever hopeful of Les Arcs confirming the form in a rematch.
“I think six furlongs is this guy’s ultimate trip and with no disrespect to Kevin Ryan’s horse as he is a very good horse, I think he may have been flattered by the distance,” he explained.
“This horse is never going to win by 10 lengths, he just does enough and if he had come in the last 100 yards, he may have won by a bit more.”
Pitt has enjoyed a meteoric rise since joining the training ranks late last year. He also scored with Admiral in last month’s Chester Cup but he hopes this latest success will spark some interest in his fledging yard.
“It really is amazing – the stuff of dreams,” added Pitt. “Any winner is good but to win a Group One televised live on terrestrial TV is great.
