Art pencilled in for Curragh

UNBEATEN two-year-old Excellent Art may bypass Royal Ascot and wait for a Group Two race at the Curragh on Irish Derby day.

Art pencilled in for Curragh

The Pivotal colt looked a smart prospect when winning the National Stakes at Sandown by nine lengths after making a winning debut at Newmarket.

He holds an entry in the Coventry Stakes next Tuesday but connections fear the ground may be too fast and have earmarked the Group Two Anhauser-Busch Adventure Parks Railway Stakes at the Curragh on July 2.

“Excellent Art is still a possible for the Coventry but with the ground drying up so much we are leaning more towards the Railway Stakes, a Group Two at the Curragh on Irish Derby day,” trainer Neville Callaghan’s son and assistant Simon told At The Races.

“We are very pleased with him. He did a very light piece of work at the weekend – he did it very easily.

“We didn’t ask him anything but we couldn’t be happier. He’s seems in fantastic order and wherever he goes he’ll take some beating for sure.”

However, the Callaghan team will still be represented at the Royal meeting by Archerfield Links.

“We’ve also got Archerfield Links in the Britannia at Ascot on the Thursday and he’s a confirmed runner,” Callaghan junior added.
