Galilean on the upgrade
He has run just twice, showing significant improvement on his second spin. The son of dual Derby winner, Galileo, finished fifth behind Talenti at Naas, eight lengths adrift of runner-up, Magicalmysterytour.
The pair clashed subsequently at the Curragh when Magicalymysterytour was beaten a short head by Rockall Blizzard. Galilean took third then and was just a length and a half behind Magicalmysterytour.
The conclusion to be drawn is that Jim Bolger’s colt is on the upgrade and the manner in which he was finishing at the end of ten furlongs was encouraging.
Aidan O’Brien’s Galileo Galilei is the obvious worry. He didn’t exactly cover himself in glory on his seasonal debut, seventh to Mon Michel at Leopardstown, but we know how Ballydoyle horses can improve for an outing.
Only seven are set to face the starter in the Irish Stallion Farms’ EBF Race, but it does look competitive.
The vote falls on Tommy Stack’s Hammers Boy, who buckled down in fine style when beating market-leader, Phoneix Ice, at Leopardstown.
Miss Beatrix, well touted when third to smart Drayton at the Curragh back in March, gets the nod in the five furlongs maiden.
Spot The Subbie, noted going on strongly at the end of six furlongs when three parts of a length second to Miracle Ridge at Ballinrobe, should relish the step up in distance in the Dunbavin Handicap.
