Dispol Veleta can defy penalty to score again

The five-year-old mare has fared well in her career to date, with a couple of victories on the all-weather and four wins on turf – all six of those successes being gained over today’s trip.

Showing steady form this term, she notched a stylish win when dropped back to a mile at Hamilton earlier this month, running on in determined style to win by an easy five lengths.

She has to shoulder a penalty here but she does not look to have reached the bottom of her reserves yet.

Mark Johnston has been among the winners of late and can continue the trend with Luck In Running in the Benfield Motors Renault Median Auction Maiden Stakes.

The Running Stag colt tired rapidly on his debut in heavy going over nine furlongs at Musselburgh in March but was not given a hard time when his chance had gone. He did a lot better next time on good going over 10 furlongs at Ripon, only weakening in the final furlong.

Luck In Running was a little disappointing when stepped up to 12 furlongs at Hamilton last time, but this drop back in trip should suit and he can get off the mark at the fourth time of asking.

It might be worth taking a chance on Gambling Spirit in the Weatherbys Printing Handicap at Brighton.

Henry Candy’s filly appeared to be crying out for a stiffer test of stamina when third over 10 furlongs at Kempton almost three weeks ago.

Always well placed that day, she took quite a while to find her stride when popped the question, but finished to such good effect that she only lost by a head and a neck.

Racing off a 3lb lower mark on her return to turf, Gambling Spirit looks capable of rewarding support.

At Newton Abbot, Penzance can make a winning start over fences in the Happy 50th Birthday Jim Mills Novices’ Chase.

The five-year-old makes the switch after a difficult season over hurdles that has seen him fail to register a victory in six starts.

However, the 2005 Triumph Hurdle winner has been tried at the highest level and looked to be bouncing back when third at Sandown last time. He is worth a chance here.

Feast Of Romance looks the best bet in the ladbrokespoker.com Banded Stakes at Southwell while River Dante can star in the Sharp Nutrition Novices’ Hunters’ Chase at Huntingdon.
