Richards wins fight for Faasel
The three-year-old colt, who was last seen winning a 12-furlong handicap at Naas earlier this month, became the subject of a fierce bidding war, with Richards sticking to his guns and eventually coming out on top.
"He is a nice sort and will go hurdling," said Richards. "He is for one of my long-standing clients.
"I have known about this horse for a while as I used to work for Kevin and he has come well recommended.
"I'd expect he'll be out around January time. He'll have a break, I'll school him and then run him when he is ready."
Gatwick, Mick Channon's one-time Derby hope who was owned by a syndicate including Sir Alex Ferguson, attracted plenty of attention and was eventually sold for a sum of 270,000gns.
The winner of four races this term will now join Sean Woods in Hong Kong.
Jamie Osborne's Moth Ball looked like being one of the day's top lots following the withdrawal of crack French chaser Kotkijet, and he changed hands for 205,000gns.
Fourth in the Redcar Two-Year-Old Trophy before landing the Listed Rockingham Stakes at York, Moth Ball was bought back by connections for 210,000gns.
However, he was subsequently sold in a private deal to the underbidder, California-based Jim Cassidy, for the lower price.
Cassidy purchased the same stable's Ticker Tape, who has gone on to be a Grade One winner in the United States.
