Time catches the Eye
The son of Singspiel has been given lots of time to mature by shrewd handler Dermot Weld and hasn’t been seen since the Irish Derby at the Curragh at the end of June.
He simply wasn’t good enough for that test, and probably found 12 furlongs too far in any case, when finishing seventh of 10 behind High Chaparral.
His previous effort, however, at Leopardstown marked him down as a horse with plenty of potential.
He contested the Group Three Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial, over a mile and a quarter, and finished a length second to High Chaparral.
That puts him in a totally different league to his rivals now and In Time’s Eye can take this on the way to far stiffer tests in the future.
Triple Gold, knocking on the door of late, gets the nap to land the seven furlongs Clonalvey Handicap.
On this track last Saturday she was left with far too much to do in the closing stages when flying home to finish a length second to Peace Angel (rec. 7lbs).
Irene Oakes has her team in fine shape and Giles, a promising fourth behind Triton Dance at Navan on Wednesday, could be another for her in the Palmerstown Nursery.
Lady Esther, who bolted in at the same Navan meeting, has a leading chance of defying a mandatory 5lbs penalty in the Hospitality Handicap.
