Dooley can deliver after long absence

DOOLEY can make a winning return after a lengthy absence in the Race Supporters’ Club Maiden Hurdle at Sligo tonight.

Dooley can deliver after long absence

The selection, who has clearly had his problems, has only ever run once and must overcome a break of 559 days.

But he has been ready to go for a while and it is significant Noel Meade brings him back over flights, rather than in a bumper, and that he will be partnered by Niall Madden.

Recently-turned professional, Madden is riding as first jockey to Meade, with Paul Carberry on the sidelines, and the fact that Dooley is his choice, from three possibilities, is a big plus in a moderate event.

Dooley hasn’t been seen since November of 2003, when going off a well-backed even-money favourite to take a Fairyhouse bumper.

He was beaten into second place, however, by the very smart David Wachman trained Master Albert, the verdict a length and a half. The now seven-year-old can start making up for lost time!

The down-in-class Kevin Prendergast trained Ball Burst looks best in the four-runner Tattersalls (Ireland) Auction Race.

She cut little ice when a poor sixth behind Waterways in a Listed event at the Curragh on Saturday, but may have needed that spin, not having been seen since making a successful debut at Cork towards the end of March, when Waterways finished third.

Carrickmoyragh, despite worries the trip may be on the short side, gets the vote in the Tuesday 28th at Sligo Handicap.

Beaten a length and a half into second over an extended nine furlongs by Aunty Euro at Gowran Park, that form received a boost when Aunty Euro went under by a short head to Best Side at the Curragh on Sunday.
