Sound Sense new Cashmans 575 favourite following Jenny flop

SOUND SENSE is the new 5/2 favourite (from 8/1) with the sponsors for the Cashmans Bookmakers 575 at Curraheen Park after ante-post favourite, Tyrur Jenny, made a surprise first round exit from the competition on Saturday night.

Tyrur Jenny was never at the races in heat 6 as Mountleader Gara made just about all.

Slowly away, Tyrur Jenny was then in trouble at the bend and despite making good late headway missed out on the qualifying places in fourth.

Meanwhile Mountleader Gara, having led Chinook Wind into the bend, went three clear between the last two bends to eventually beat Chinook Wind by a length and a half 31.57. Paul Hennessy, who trains Tyrur Jenny, had got off to an ideal start when Ballygarron Ace took the opening heat, a five dog affair with reserves in for two of the three non runners.

One of the substitutes, Dilemma Dee, was best away but Ballygarron Ace had taken his measure by the bend. The winner asserted early in the back straight and, in control from halfway, ran out an easy three and a half lengths winner from the other reserve, Knockglass King, in 31.22

Airmount Liz was a significant non runner (no reserve) in heat 4 which was dominated by Sound Sense and Ballymac Bullet.

The latter led from the first bend to between the last two where The Stephen Bourke trained Sound Sense came through smoothly for an ultimately easy five length success in a fastest of the round 31.10.

Bourke also took heat 2 when Count Gelignite had a workmanlike winning debut at the track. The ex-English tracker was led early on by Tippy Toes but showed enough early pace to shade the bend from the latter. Count Gelignite was joined by Slippery Bill at the second bend and the two had a good tussle afterwards, never more than a length separating the pair until Count Gelignite took a definite advantage in the closing stages to pull a length and a half clear at the line in 31.28.

There was a lot to like about the manner of Witches Lark’s heat 5 success.

The Paudie Coughlan trained bitch was very fast away from her wide draw and, after easily making the bend in front, had no trouble in seeing off Rock Hill, her only serious rival from halfway, by two and a half lengths in 31.27.

Tuckeys Return made just about all to take heat 3. He was a shade fortunate not to be clipped from behind by the wide running Headleys Hiker at the opening bend and then hung on grimly as Fivestar Export threw down a determined challenge in the closing stages for a half a length win in 31.40.

Meanwhile Bright Outlook got off the mark over the standard trip in style when taking the final of the Redmills Stakes, making all for an easy four length win over Sportsmans Best in 28.97 while Castlekevin View showed good early pace to lead the bend from his wide draw and then held off a late challenge by Kilbaha Cat to take the final of the Newmarket Motors Caddy Stakes in a fastest of the night 28.50.
