Derby option for George Washington
The Danehill colt, winner of four of his five starts last term, is among six extra Ballydoyle contenders for the June 3 event.
Aidan O’Brien has also made entries for Benjamin Franklin, Frost Giant, Pescatorio, Poseidon Adventure and Road To Mandalay.
Godolphin have put in both Palace Episode and Winged Cupid, while Andre Fabre has entered the well-backed Visindar and Linda’s Lad.
Alan Jarvis’ Awatuki and the Mick Channon-trained Championship Point are the two other additional entries.
Kieren Fallon is keeping his fingers crossed George Washington will see out the trip in the 2000 Guineas .
The colt was a winner over seven furlongs as a juvenile but has yet to tackle the Newmarket trip of a mile.
“He got seven furlongs last year but there is a question mark there, we don’t know for sure, but we’re always hopeful,” said Fallon.
“He’s got lots of speed but all good horses have a lot of speed.”
Fallon is also looking forward to teaming up with Horatio Nelson later in the season after the duo won four of their five starts last term.
“This is probably one of the nicest little horses I’ve ever had anything to do with, in every sense,” said Fallon.
“He goes on any ground, he’s got speed, he stays - he’s just a joy to be around
“All horses are individuals, they’re all different. George is a big power horse who oozes ability but they’re all quality.”
Fallon also has Rumplestiltskin, the ante-post favourite for the Stan James 1000 Guineas, Ivan Denisovich, Art Museum and a host of other exciting mounts this term.
“I’m fortunate to be in a position to be working with a stable that has so many good horses,” he added.
“When you find yourself rooting around looking for a Guineas ride, that’s when it’s frustrating; when you have a choice it’s great.
“I know Aidan will be targeting a lot of the trials as we have so many horses to sort out and so many good ones. It’s different horses for different courses - the next couple of weeks will tell us a lot.”
Meanwhile, Frankie Dettori delighted a rain-soaked crowd at Folkestone yesterday as he doubled his tally for the jockeys’ championship when booting home a brace of winners.
Dettori struck first in the opener when Urban Warrior made all to take the Invicta Motors Median Auction Maiden Stakes.
The rider had the 7-4 favourite smartly away in the five-furlong contest and although Rippling River came through to challenge in the closing stages, the John Best-trained Urban Warrior dug deep to come home a one-length winner.
Rippling River took second, a length and a quarter ahead of Goose Green.
The double came up when Time On galloped away with the Kentish Express Fun Club Maiden Fillies’ Stakes.
Barney Curley’s runners are usually to be feared when the betting market speaks in their favour.
And the old adage paid dividends again when 9-4 favourite Le Soleil took the Eastwell Manor Handicap under Jamie Spencer.
