Proper Squire can get back on winning trail

PROPER SQUIRE, sharpened up by a recent outing at Market Rasen, looks a good bet to regain the winning thread in the Tote Trifecta Handicap Hurdle at Kempton Park today.

Proper Squire can get back on winning trail

Charlie Mann’s five-year-old won in good style at Fontwell back in May, beating Temper Lad by three and a half lengths.

He was then off the track until reappearing at the Lincolnshire venue, which makes his effort there when he finished third, beaten five and a half lengths behind Pillar Of Fire, even more creditable.

Proper Squire kept on well last time over two miles and five furlongs and the step up to an extended three miles tomorrow should be right up his street.

He is made the nap.

Hurricane Lamp can light up proceedings in the Scaitcliffe Chase.

Alan King’s 11-year-old won at Warwick, Huntingdon and Sandown last season but has yet to score this term.

However, he has shown himself as good as ever with three fair efforts, finishing runner-up on each occasion.

The gelding was returning after a five-month break when beaten nine lengths by the well-handicapped Perfect Fellow at Cheltenham last time.

Hurricane Lamp would not have to improve too much on that effort to open his account for the campaign .

Nicky Henderson’s horses are always worth considering at the Sunbury track and the Seven Barrows trainer can land a double with with Isio and Iris Royal.

Isio was consistent over hurdles last season, winning three of his six starts and finishing second in the others.

The six-year-old has the build to do well over fences and can get his new career off to a winning start in the Cadogan Charity Novices’ Chase.

Smart hurdler Iris Royal can make the most of the 5lb he receives from easy Carlisle winner Bold Investor to take the European Breeders Fund Novices’ Chase.

David Barron’s runners should never be overlooked at Southwell and the Maunby trainer has sound prospects of another success with Supreme Salutation in the first division of the Littlewoods Bet Direct AW Trainers Championship Selling Stakes. The six-year-old ran well to finish second of 16 to Lakota Brave in a Lingfield claimer on his penultimate start and, dropped in grade, and should prove too good for the opposition.
