Twelve month ban for Farrier

FARRIER Michael McAteer was made a disqualified person for 12 months at an appeal hearing before the Stewards of the Governing Bodies at the Curragh yesterday.

He appealed against a penalty imposed by the Appeals and Referrals Committee in April after an inquiry into the running of Carapuncha in unrecognised meetings in 2004.

The committee had made him a disqualified person, with a recommendation that this should be for at least two years. His 12-month ban starts today.

Warwick’s evening meeting on Wednesday has been abandoned due to waterlogging.

Officials were left with no alternative but to call off the fixture after three and a half inches of rain fell in an hour and a half on Friday night.

A total of four inches of rain fell on the course on Friday night into Saturday morning.
