Dettori extends lead
With his title rival missing six rides after suffering a bone-crunching fall at the track 24 hours earlier, Dettori was left with a clear run.
He got on the scoreboard as Mansfield Park made the most of a drop in class to land the ladbrokes.com Wreake Fillies’ Conditions Stakes.
The Saeed Bin Suroor-trained three-year-old was last seen finishing third in a Listed race at Ascot, and she hardly had to come out of second gear this time to win.
After taking up the running in the early stages, the Italian asked the 4-9 favourite to quicken entering the final two furlongs and she showed a smart turn of foot to score by an eased-down five lengths from Coqueteria.
“She is a nice big filly who has been a little bit weak,” said Bin Suroor.
“Frankie gave her a good ride and we will see how she comes back, but she may have another race.”
Dettori appeared to have an excellent chance of completing a double when Silent Jo had only two rivals to face in the ladbrokes.com Conditions Stakes.
But the youngster failed to quicken up when required and finished last of the trio behind the Pat Chamings-trained Foxhaven - the 6-1 outsider of the field.
Fallon, meanwhile, hopes to be back in the saddle at Lingfield Park today.
The champion jockey has a full book of eight rides at the Surrey track.
Fallon narrowly escaped serious injury when he took a crashing fall from Maritima in the second division of the EBF Hare Maiden Fillies’ Stakes at Leicester on Monday.
“I am bruised all over and feel a bit stiff after my fall. I should be OK to ride again tomorrow,” he said.
Fallon currently trails Dettori by 14 in the race for the jockeys’ title, but he has vowed to “bat on”.
However, Ladbrokes have closed betting on the title race.
Elsewhere, Eddie Ahern lost his appeal yesterday against the severity of the 21-day suspension he received at the Curragh earlier this month.
He was given the ban after an altercation that left fellow-rider Declan McDonogh requiring stitches in a nose injury.
After a hearing of the Appeals And Referrals Committee yesterday Denis Egan, chief executive of the Turf Club, said: “His appeal was dismissed and an additional €1,000 have been levied against him towards the costs.”
The ban, which will rule Ahern out of Champions’ Day at Newmarket on Saturday, followed an incident in the changing room after the C L Weld Park Stakes.
Ahern had finished last on the Mark Prescott-trained 5-2 favourite Songerie.
He was found guilty of improper conduct on the racecourse and banned from racing on 21 days when there is Flat racing in Ireland.
The days he will be suspended on this year are October 13, 14, 16, 17, 20, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27 and 31. The dates for next year - March 20, 24, 26, 27, 28 and April 3, 6, 7, 10 and 14 - are subject to confirmation.
