Tobesure one to be sure of

And Tobesure can be the one to help pay for some of those Christmas expenses by winning the Kit Patterson Novices’ Handicap Chase.

John Charlton’s gelding opened his account over the big obstacles over the course and distance a month ago when gamely holding Jumbo’s Dream by a neck.

That was a meritorious performance by Tobesure. He was conceding 18lb to the runner-up in what was only his second outing over fences.

His first had been a bit of a disaster as he took a heavy fall at Kelso in March 2002, but a series of runs over hurdles helped him regain his confidence and his recent success has hopefully completed the process.

Full Irish can get off the mark at the first attempt over fences in the Christopher John Thompson Armstrong Beginners’ Chase.

A decent bumper winner as well as a scorer over hurdles, Full Irish was highly-tried towards the end of last season.

He is reported to have schooled well and can pay his way on the northern circuit.
