Talbot Lad puts Aintree fall behind him
The eight-year-old came to grief in the amateur riders’ race immediately after the Martell Cognac Grand National but bounced back to win the Bromfield Sand & Gravel Handicap Chase.
Talbot Lad took up the running on the run to the fourth-last, but Jason Maguire had to get serious when Kind Sir made a renewed challenge.
Eventually he won by four lengths, after which trainer Steve Brookshaw said: “We asked him a question today as he was a novice taking on handicappers, and he answered well.
“He is going the right way. He had a breathing operation before the start of the season and although it was not serious, it had to be done.
“He loves fast ground, and hopefully we will pick up a few more races with him.”
A first attempt over three miles held no fears for Analogy, who coasted to a five-length victory in the Robert Holden Novices’ Hurdle.
Tracking long-time leader Bay Kenny into the final straight, Analogy took up the running approaching the final flight and was ridden clear.
Charlie Mann’s travelling head lad Chrissie Barnard said: “That was his first time over three miles and he has got it well.
“He has had a tongue-tie to help with his breathing and he is very much a horse for the summer.”
The Henry Daly trained Long Walk survived his only mistake at the final fence in the three-mile Arrow Mobility Novices’ Chase to make it two wins in his last three runs.
Sharing the lead with Dante Citizen for most of the way, he went clear two fences from home to beat Moreluck by seven lengths.
