Time for Five to come Alive

THE dropped-in-class Five Alive O can get punters away to a flier in the opening Horseleap Maiden Hurdle at Kilbeggan this evening.

Noel Meade’s charge, winner of a bumper at Downpatrick a year ago, performed with real promise over flights on his latest appearance.

That was at Gowran Park last month, when he finished three parts of a length and 11 lengths third behind Rockstown Boy and Mirpour.

You could argue he was beaten plenty far enough that day, but the credit side is he meets nothing remotely as good as those two horses now. Both Rockstown Boy and Mirpour have won in the meantime.

Princess Alannah has a leading chance of shrugging off a mandatory 6lbs penalty in the Coola Handicap Hurdle.

That was incurred for her eight lengths victory at Sligo on Tuesday night, where she revelled in the testing conditions.

Edward O’Grady’s Favourite Son is the choice in the Bloomfield House Hotel Hurdle. He was beaten four and a half lengths into second spot by Come Alive in what looked a useful enough contest of its type at Gowran Park.

John Kiely’s Kitty Star is worth another chance in the Bumper.

She went off a nicely supported market-leader at Punchestown eight days ago, contest won by Shannon Leader.

The selection, however, never settled and, as expected, had nothing in the locker when the battle began in earnest.

Kitty Star is better judged on her first run, runner-up to well-regarded Monte Vista, also at Punchestown.
