Sandown date for Persian Punch

PERSIAN PUNCH is set to have a run at Sandown next month before tackling the Goodwood Cup for a sixth time.

His trainer David Elsworth is targeting the Listed Theodore Goddard Esher Stakes at the track on Coral-Eclipse day (July 5) with the 10-year-old before he tries to win a second Goodwood Cup after his victory in 2001.

Persian Punch showed signs of his old spark last week when finishing second to Mr Dinos in the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot and Elsworth is keen to keep him ticking over until Goodwood on July 31.
