Dettori can deliver on Danehill Willy

NEVILLE CALLAGHAN’S Danehill Willy returns to turf action at Pontefract’s first meeting of the new campaign today and should be followed under Frankie Dettori.

Dettori can deliver on Danehill Willy

A good second recently on the Polytrack at Kempton, the four-year-old is likely to be a tough nut to crack in the High-Rise Handicap named in honour of the Derby winner who won at the West Yorkshire venue in 1998.

He seemingly acts on any going, winning four races between seven and 10 furlongs on ground varying from good to firm to soft.

And with a recent all-weather run likely to give him an edge in fitness, he should be able to get back to winning ways.

Danehill Willy was asked to make all by Dettori last time but in the end had to settle for second, just run out of it and beaten three parts of a length by the useful Ameeq. He can regain the winning thread.

Up Tempo deserves extra attention in the Terence Grady 70th Birthday Handicap.

The Kevin Ryan-trained eight-year-old has been a credit to connections and was recording his fourth all-weather success when landing a claimer six furlongs at Wolverhampton back in February.

His handicap days looked behind him on the evidence of his eighth behind Mystic Man at Dunstall Park on his next start but a return to claiming company has subsequently seen him pressing for further glory.

He has a little more on his plate back in this grade but a return to winning ways is on the agenda for the consistent son of Flying Spur.

Mel Brittain opened his account for the year when Bahamian Bay was an impressive winner over five furlongs at Southwell last week.

The win came a year after the filly had scored over the same course and distance, both successes coming in Banded company.

Connections are convinced the horse is better than that so her quick reappearance in the Experience Nottinghamshire Banded Stakes over six furlongs at Southwell should provide her with another winning opportunity.

It's No Problem looked very green on her debut over five furlongs on Lingfield's Polytrack last month but ran on well to finish fifth behind Love In May.

The promise she showed can be realised when she makes her turf debut in the EBF Maiden Fillies' Stakes at Warwick.

Her breeding suggests she may want further than this five furlongs in time but this should prove a good stepping stone to better things.
