Spencer feels the power in Lone Star workout
The young rider has five mounts for boss Aidan O’Brien at Saturday’s meeting.
“I haven’t ridden Powerscourt for a good while, but he felt really fresh and well,” said Spencer after returning to the barn with the four-year-old, who got pretty excited about being out on the track and sweated up badly.
“The last two furlongs will tell how tough he is because we’re going up to a mile and a half, but he shapes like he will stay and we know he has a turn of foot.
“What happened in the Arlington Million (when he was disqualified for interference) is in the past now. There’s no point crying over spilt milk.
“Yesterday is in great order, which is a credit to the boss because she was very ill only a few months ago.
“Scandinavia is a lovely colt who I was really impressed with last time, and if Mona Lisa can find the same level of improvement as she did at Ascot then she should run well.
“I’m even looking forward to riding Antonius Pius. Johnny (Murtagh) and Kieren (Fallon) have had a go on him and now I will try again.
“The ability is there if the race falls right for him.”
