Owned by John McCallin from Belfast, the 1-2 overnight favourite had little difficulty in disposing of Deans Cider by five lengths when leading all the way to the escape in the third round.

In the semi-final he led Mattina from slips, was headed when he appeared to lose sight, but came back to get the opening turn by two lengths.

In the other half of the draw Quarrymount Sam created a surprise in his quarter-final against last season’s Champion Stakes runner-up, Distant Fields, when he led all the way to the escape for a half a length success after the pair were bumping on the run up.

In the semi-final he came up against Marshals Supreme and also led all the way with the loser closing to a length at the turn.

In the final Quarrymount Sam was smartly away from slips to lead but Yes Jimmy Ha came storming through in the closing stages to take the only turn in the course.

Both semi-finals of the Derby Trial Stakes provided upsets.

Kyle Bond, the over night favourite, led nearly all the way against Seans Sam but in the end was beaten a half a length for the only score. Inch Heritage meanwhile suffered the same fate in the second semi-final as he also led nearly all the way only to be caught in the closing stages by Biffo, who was a length to the good at the escape.

In he final Seans Sam, jointly owned by John P and James Davern from Kennedy Park, Limerick, who ran up for the trial stake at the Regional, was quickly into his stride to take the vital score by four lengths.

The honours in the Oaks Trial Stake went to Mna View, the property of John Martin Ryan from Cappawhite, Co. Tipperary. In the final she proved a length faster then Matthew O’Donnell’s (Killenaule) The Other Sense when leading all the way to the escape.
