Clare-born champion jockey Kieren Fallon was one of three jockeys arrested by police yesterday as a result of an exhaustive investigation into the alleged fixing of races. Raids across Suffolk, North Yorkshire and South Yorkshire led to the arrest of 16 people, including Derry native Fergal Lynch and Darren Williams. The allegations involve more than 80 races over the last two years.

However Irish horse racing bosses say there is no cause for concern here: “Nothing has ever come to our attention and we have security controls in place. The integrity of Irish racing is second to none and our objective is to keep it like that,” said Mr Egan.
