Gamut looks primed for a big run
Two early-season runs should have primed Sir Michael Stoute’s six-year-old for this mile-and-a-half contest.
Gamut kicked off with a really good second to Alkaased in the Jockey Club Stakes over tomorrow’s trip in May, finishing just a length and a half down despite having to shoulder a Group One penalty.
That form looks all the more meritorious considering that Alkaased has since gone on to win the Group One Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud.
Admittedly, Gamut’s last run when third in the Hardwicke Stakes at the Royal meeting was less inspiring, but the very firm ground would have been against him there and he will enjoy more ease today
Stoute had the son of Spectrum spot-on about this ime last year, when he landed the Saint-Cloud race, and a return to that kind of form can see him hit the target.
Ivan Denisovich can land the afternoon’s other Pattern race, the Group Two TNT July Stakes.
Red Clubs is sure to be well-fancied after his Royal Ascot win, but Ivan Denisovich is an interesting type, being royally-bred and already a winner.
He ran very green when second on his debut at Newbury, but showed the benefit of that experience when scoring at Leopardstown last time.
He beat Andramad by four and a half lengths without really being extended, and trainer Aidan O’Brien rated him a Royal Ascot type at that stage.
