Zip retires undefeated

SENAHEL ZIP ended a short but interesting career with victory in the final of the Mahon Stakes at Curraheen Park on Saturday night.

The Timmy Lehane (Mallow) owned bitch won all five of the races she contested and her win on Saturday night was her second sweepstake win - she had previous been successful in one at Clonmel. In between she had a litter by Top Honcho and will be mated to Honcho Classic the next time she comes in season.

The winner was bred by Timmy's brother, David, and is a full sister to Yeah Man, currently the 7/4 favourite with Cashmans for the Shelbourne Tote 525.

Although uneasy in the betting (evens to 6/4) Senahel Zip led at the bend and her task was a straightforward one after bunching in behind. She eventually won by six and a half lengths from Parchments Decko in 28.94.

There were no fireworks timewise in the opening round heats of the Beamish 575 Stakes. Fastest time recorded was the 31.33 by Panther Patrol in heat 2.

The John Kiely trained dog led out of the second bend and made the rest comfortably for a two and a half length win over Tyrur Footsteps.
