Crowley appeals five-day ban

JIM CROWLEY will appeal against a five-day suspension for improper riding at the Jockey Club today.

Crowley appeals five-day ban

Crowley was banned at Fontwell last Sunday after partnering Kaparolo to finish second in the totesport 0800 221 221 Claiming Hurdle Race.

The stewards decided Crowley had deliberately prevented Tom Messenger, the jockey of Jay Bee Ell, from coming up his inside.

Crowley’s case will be heard by the disciplinary panel at 9.30am.

Meanwhile, the Jockey Club will hold an inquiry next Thursday to consider the improvement in form by last month’s Wincanton winner Bekstar.

Trained by John Tuck and ridden by Seamus Durack, Bekstar won the RHT 40th Anniversary Handicap Hurdle at Wincanton on October 7 at odds of 7-2.

The mare had finished fifth at Fontwell on her previous run on September 21 prompting the stewards to refer the case under instruction H19 (b).

Under that guidance the previous runs of a horse are reviewed in conjunction with any explanation given for the improvement by connections on the day of the race at the stewards’ inquiry.

After considering the the report of the inquiry, the stewards of the Jockey Club forwarded the case to the disciplinary panel who will hold a hearing on November 25.
