Carlow Spice may prove too hot for Rebel
Carlow Spice is one who should show benefit from the first round run. Although always in the firing line, she was chopped off a few times after taking an inside route on the way to a 41.72 victory. If Paul Hennessy’s bitch gets any sort of run in the second semi-final, she should show a big improvement .
The danger comes in the shape of Hennessy’s other runner in the race, Property Rebel. He was having his first look at the track last week and ran on well, beaten two and a half lengths by Lemon Rambo in 41.76. Perfectly drawn in one, he rates a huge danger.
The first semi-final rests between Dolores Ruth’s Lemon Rambo and Hennessy’s Air Force Honcho. Rambo made all last week but did a moderate enough 41.76 on a fast track. On the other hand, Air Force Honcho took the tourist route and only went down by a neck to Dog Almighty in 41.93
Lemon Rambo has taken Honcho’s scalp on a few occasions but is not favoured by an outside draw. Honcho has his own way of doing things and usually arrives from downtown. But he has a 41.53 clocked in Cork for the trip and a return to that sort of form would be good enough.
Jordans Elect has smart staying form around the country and Brian McCann’s charge can take the third heat from Dog Almighty. Bins Image is likely to lead but Jordans Elect showed a liking for the rails last week and possesses that advantage again.
The early paced Balintore Lady can take the Champion Professional Stakes. Graham Calvert’s runner flew to the bend in last week’s semi-final and a repeat should see her home in front of Eastern Ranger, winner of four out of eight and also a fast starter.
