Fortune verdict on hold
The jockey left hospital in Salisbury yesterday and headed for his Wiltshire home, accompanied by his wife Jan.
Tony Hind, Fortune's agent, said: "He had an X-ray last night and is now on his way home, but has to go back for an MRI scan on Wednesday morning, so we are not going to know anything about how bad it is, or how severe it is, until then."
Fortune seems to be in better spirits, and Hind added: "He sounds okay. Well, a lot better than he sounded last night let's put it that way!"
The jockey collapsed with back trouble in the changing room after finishing third on Menhoubah for Clive Brittain in the Moyglare Stud Stakes.
He was flown back to Britain on Sunday night and immediately transferred to hospital.
Meanwhile, Alan Jarvis has not lost faith in River Belle despite the filly losing her 100% record in the Moyglare.
The winner of the Princess Margaret Stakes at Ascot could finish only fifth to Necklace in the Group One event.
She is set to return to Ascot for the Meon Valley Stud Fillies' Mile later this month.
"She's fine. I've spoken to my son, who's over there with her, and she's got no ill-effects," the Oxfordshire trainer said yesterday.
"The fast ground didn't help and she was flying at the death. There's no question she'll get the mile at Ascot.
"She's very laid back. She never gets upset or worried about anything and when she won at Ascot, Kieren (Fallon) said she's got five gears."
Jarvis is hoping Fallon will be available to ride her in the Fillies' Mile. Kevin Darley took the mount at the Curragh as the champion was in action at Deauville.
"In a race like this it is possible Sir Michael Stoute might have a runner, so I shall wait until nearer the time," he added.
Jarvis revealed that his star stayer Jardines Lookout will be ridden by Darryll Holland in his second attempt at the Melbourne Cup, in which he was a strong-finishing seventh last year.
"To be honest he should have been in the first three last year. Turning into the straight he had two behind him and he was passing horses hand over fist," he said.
"He leaves for Australia on October 7 and he won't be running before then."
