Mixed luck for O’Sullivan at Mallow

IT was a day of mixed luck for Kinsale Rd., Cork owner Dermot O’Sullivan at the Mallow meeting.

He had to withdraw I Heard So from the final of the Derby Trial Stake, because of injury, giving Liam Dowling’s August pup, Ballymac Apsent, a walkover.

But O’Sullivan gained more than a degree of compensation when he took the Oaks Trial Stake with Vacume Countess, who got the better of the Pat Norris trained All Too Beautiful, who changed sides.

Then O’Sullivan saw his long odds favourite for the All Aged, The Rakes of Mallow Stake, Vacume Legend, go under to the Angela Condon owned Why Tanyard Jane, who was the 6/1 outsider of the four standing before the semi finals.

The Inter Club Stake was won by the John Rohan owned Abbeyglen Smut, representing The Charleville Club. He came from behind the Kildorrery representative, Surprise Magic, in the decider and had two lengths to spare where it mattered.
