Pyramid to make a winning debut
Aidan O’Brien is hopeful of a bold show.
He said yesterday: ‘‘He’s a good horse and he’s ready for a run but will improve for it.’’
Of those who have run, Just Hitched from the Con Collins stable, ran a useful race on her debut at the Curragh recently finishing a length and a half second to Laminata over this evening’s trip.
She may have to settle for the runner-up role again however behind a potential Group 1 performer.
Trainer John Kiely’s stable is in good form at the moment and he can record another success with Leos Shuil in the Brophy Farrell Auctioneers Stakes over a mile.
The Good Thyne filly won her maiden in impressive style, after making all, over a mile and five at Navan thirteen days ago when scoring by seven lengths from Lady Beth having previously won a Bumper at Tipperary at the end of June.
Maderno looks the danger.
The Aidan O’Brien trained Nureyev colt won on soft going at the Curragh in March and was a creditable fifth, beaten less than two lengths in a blanket finish of a race over this evening’s trip at Leopardstown on Saturday.
Dermot Weld and Pat Smullen can combine to take the opening Darley Stallions Maiden, over the minimum trip with Virtuous Image while Desert Hill can make it third time lucky in the Derrinstown Stud Apprentice Handicap after failing narrowly at Leopardstown and the Curragh in his last two races.
Meanwhile Aidan O’Brien’s other highly-touted juvenile Van Nistelrooy, one of the most expensive horses in training after being bought for $6.4m, is also set to run this week.
He is entered for the Listed Flame Of Tara Tyros Stakes over seven furlongs where he will be bidding to follow up his debut win at the Curragh earlier this month.
O’Brien also has Academy Award, Brian Boru, Cougar, Kimberley Mino, Newfoundland and Yesterday among the 24 preliminary entries for the Curragh race.
