McCoy to enjoy better luck on Oscar’s Advance

TONY MCCOY hasn't enjoyed the best of luck journeying across the Irish Sea to ride for J P McManus so far this season, but his fortunes can take a turn for the better at Punchestown today.

McCoy to enjoy better luck on Oscar’s Advance

McCoy is fancied to guide Christy Roche's Oscar's Advance to success in the first division of the Kildare Maiden Hurdle and provide us with a winning nap in the process.

The son of Oscar looked a possible star of the future when taking two bumpers for Mags Mullins in his four-year-old days, but clearly had problems subsequently and missed all of last year.

He returned to action in the Wetherbys' Champion Bumper at Cheltenham in March and wasn't disgraced when finishing tenth of 24 behind Missed That.

Oscar's Advance was then put away until making a very encouraging reappearance over flights when third to Mounthenry on this track last month.

Corrigreenroe, light in the market when beaten a length and a half by The Looney Bishop on his first excursion over flights, also at Punchestown, is the big worry.

Wild Passion, Kill Devil Hill and Publican, three very talented novice hurdlers, promise the race of the day in the Panoramic Restaurant Beginners Chase.

The first-named was the best of them and gets the vote. Runner-up behind Arcalis in the Supreme Novices' Hurdle at Cheltenham, he rounded off his campaign with a gutsy short-head defeat of Kill Devil Hill in a Grade One at the Punchestown Festival in April. Noel Meade's charge has reportedly schooled really well.

Charles Byrnes has suffered a number of reverses of late, but Mounthenry can get the show back on the road in the Tote Sports Lounge Novice Hurdle.

Mounthenry landed some decent wagers when streking away with his maiden, by six lengths, at Punchestown, giving the impression there was a lot more to come!

The second section of the Kildare Maiden Hurdle is best left to Letterman, out of his depth behind Asian Maze at the Punchestown Festival, but previously a creditable second to Queen Astrid at Leopardstown at Christmas.
