Fallon opts to take back-seat next year
Fallon has reigned supreme over his peers for some time, winning the title six times, and is determined to push for 200 winners this term.
However, the Irishman’s pursuers, headed by Holland, will be heartened to learn Fallon will concentrate on quality over quantity next season.
“I don’t want to sound blasé, but I don’t usually think about reaching the ton as I’ve done that quite a bit now,” Fallon said after reaching his century.
“For me, it is trying to hit the magical 200, which I hope to do this year, but this will be my last season chasing winners at every meeting in the land.
“For a jockey there is nothing better than riding winners and to be champion at the end of it is wonderful, but there is a price to pay.
“I won’t be chasing my tail next season in order to hit the big numbers as I would rather concentrate on riding the better horses.”
Holland is unlikely to catch Fallon in this season’s title race, but he could finally get the chance to lift the title he craves next term.
Following his first winning ride at Navan in 1984, Fallon has become one of the world’s finest jockeys.
In 1998 he moved to Britain and began to ride for Jimmy Fitzgerald, riding his first British winner shortly after at Thirsk on Evichstar.
He went on to ride for Lynda Ramsden, Henry Cecil and Michael Stoute before turning freelance.
Mental strength, patience and natural talent have been the hallmarks of his success.
