O’Shea firing on all cylinders
O’Shea is snapping at the heels of messrs. Kinane, Smullen and Murtagh in the jockeys title race, is riding with plenty of confidence and will add significantly to that total by the year end.
Just four went to post for the LMFM Radio Race. Kevin Manning sent the well supported Aqualina to the front at the two furlong pole and the 7/4 shot stayed on strongly to beat Plume Rouge by a length and a half. The winner is trained by his boss and father-in-law Jim Bolger.
Seventeen-year-old Christopher Geoghegan partnered his first winner when he brought Russian Comrade with a well timed challenge to land the apprentice handicap for owner trainer, William Fitzpatrick.
Pat Shanahan partnered his fourth winner in the last six days when he partnered Euro Pressure, who headed the favourite Final Opinion close home, in the fillies maiden.
The Pat Hughes trained Cache Creek followed up her Killarney success when she landed the mile and a quarter handicap by a length and a half from the unlucky Askthejudge.
“She’s done it nicely and she appreciated the ground”, remarked Hughes.
Johnny Murtagh was stood down after he partnered Pepperwood to victory in the Ardboyne Maiden due to dehydration, but he expects to be back riding at Cork today.
“He’s won it well and he might appreciate another furlong or two,” remarked winning trainer John Oxx, who indicated that Mkuzi will probably run in the Wolferton Stakes at Royal Ascot next week.
