Boru has satisfactory work-out
He went ten furlongs with stable companions Dickens and The Great Gatsby, from stalls, and eventually finished about a length in front of The Great Gatsby.
Dickens (Colm O’Donoghue), following a tardy start, soon led, but was never very far in front of The Great Gatsby (Seamus Heffernan), with Brian Boru (Michael Kinane) a couple of lengths away in third.
The Great Gatsby cruised to the front early in the straight and was quickly followed through by Brian Boru, as Dickens dropped away.
Brian Boru edged ahead with just over a furlong to go, but never threatened to quicken clear.
Seamus Heffernan asked The great Gatsby for very little and Brian Boru had to be pushed out to get on top in the closing stages.
Ladbrokes’ Mike Dillon reacted by making Brian Boru 4-1 favourite for Epsom, with Alamshar on 7-1 and both Hold That Tiger and Refuse To Bend on 10-1.
Cashmans, however, were unimpressed and immediately extended Brian Boru’s Epsom odds from 3-1 to 5-1.
Kinane expressed himself pleased with the exercise, however. "I’m happy with that”, he said.
"The horse is in good shape and moved well. He did enough today and the Derrinstown (set to be Brian Boru’s first run of the campaign) is still a bit away.”
The clock-watchers timed Brian Boru’s effort at between three and a half and four seconds slower than Balestrini in the Ballysax Stakes.
