Mingun can strike
A son of A P Indy and brilliant mare, Miesque, the selection showed soft ground held no fears for him with a creditable effort on his only outing so far, at the Curragh back in October. He contested a seven furlongs maiden, going to the front under two furlongs down, before failing by a neck to hold stable companion Alberto Giacometti.
The bare form is ordinary, several of those who finished behind have done little for it in the meantime, but Mingun is clearly a horse with a lot of potential and gets the vote.
The EBF Median Auction Maiden probably won’t take a lot of winning and again Aidan O’Brien may supply the answer with Mahogany. He is an unraced son of Orpen, who cost 310,000 at Goffs.
The Roundwood EBF Fillies Maiden can go to Dermot Weld’s Dancing Colors. The daughter of Spectrum peformed with plenty of promise on her debut at Naas earlier in the month.
A big drifter in the market, 5-1 from 3’s, she missed the break, before powering home to get within a length and a half of Almost Dancing with subsequent Cork winner, Miss Serendipity, back in fifth spot.
Feature event is the Saval Beg Stakes, but this is a real puzzle. A hopeful vote falls on Crimphill, trained by in-form Michael Grassick.
She has been in terrific shape this season and her seventh behind Humilis at Cork on Friday night can be discounted, because ten furlongs on that fast track would not be her cup of tea!
