Butterfly Blue good for openers

MICHAEL KINANE, who has been booked by Godolphin to partner Grandera in tomorrow’s King George at Ascot and intends returning to ride at Leopardstown in the evening, can enjoy the ideal warm-up by landing a double at Cork tonight.

His mount, Butterfly Blue, eighth of eight at the Curragh last month, gets the nap to take the opening Irish Stallion Farms’ Fillies Maiden.

The Curragh contest was the Group Two Pretty Polly Stakes and this represents a major drop in class for the daughter of Sadler’s Wells.

She cut no ice in that event and was always at the rear, eventually coming home a little over ten lengths adrift of Hanami.

But Butterfly Blue was returning from a long break and wasn’t given a hard time by Kinane, when it became obvious she was out of her depth.

At Tipperary back in April, she looked to have a future when arriving from off the pace to claim third spot in the contest won by Sissy Slew.

The Ballydoyle juveniles are now in full flow and Celtic Cat can be another for them in the five furlongs Maiden.

He cost 220,000 guineas as a yearling, is by Danehill and, hopefully, can do the business for Kinane.

Joe Crowley has his charges in sparkling form and his Caishill gets the nod in the Arnold Communications’ Hurdle.

The four-year-old performed solidly at Wexford when beaten two lengths into second by the useful Favourite Son and may be well suited to stepping up another half mile in trip now!

Feature event is the five furlongs Fermoy Handicap and Jacks Estate, a close fourth to Assigh Lady in the Rockingham at the Curragh and who has shown his liking for this track in the past, is the far from confident selection.
