Colorus can collect
Richard Fahey’s colt was pitched into Listed company on the Knavesmire and it proved a shade too much as he finished a two-length fourth behind Tabaret.
That said, Colorus still performed creditably as he lacked the experience of some of his rivals.
The Night Shift colt had previously won a modest event at Southwell on his only other start and can only improve for racing.
Wahoo Sam set off at a rate of knots at Hamilton last month but a slightly less frantic pace can see him lift the City of Ripon Stakes.
The five-year-old likes to make his own running but he looked to go off just too fast last time over nine furlongs before getting swallowed up in the closing stages.
Given that particular race was run in a new course record, it would suggest Wahoo Sam did all the donkey work for very little reward with his fourth place.
He had previously put in a decent run when winning over a furlong less at Hamilton but has since switched from David Barron’s yard to the care of Kevin Ryan.
The Hambleton trainer has been in cracking form of late so that should prove no handicap and Wahoo Sam looks set to pick up the winning thread.
Another handler who can barely put a foot wrong at present is Sir Mark Prescott and his Tangible can continue the run in the Eat Sleep Drink At Nags Head, Pickhill Handicap.
Prescott traditionally makes a late start to the season and he kept to the plan with this Hernando filly as she didn’t make her seasonal bow until earlier in the month.
She opened with a win at Sandown and then made a quick reappearance under a 6lb penalty at Nottingham just four days later.
Tangible was off the bridle a long way out and although she kept on well under pressure, she could never quite get to the enterprisingly-ridden winner Maggie Tulliver.
The filly lost little in defeat there and it would be no surprise if she bounced straight back.
