Kingscliff in hunt for the Gold Cup

KINGSCLIFF, the general second favourite for the totesport Cheltenham Gold Cup, will continue his preparations with another day’s hunting this week.

Kingscliff in hunt for the Gold Cup

The eight-year-old has had just the one racecourse start this season, when he finished second to Kicking King in the King George VI Chase at Kempton. That will be his only run before Cheltenham as trainer Robert Alner swears by hunting to keep Kingscliff fit and interested.

“Channel 4 are coming down here on Wednesday as he is going hunting again and he’s in great form,” he said. “We don’t intend to run him again before Cheltenham. He enjoys his hunting and that keeps him fit and well. Unless something goes wrong, it’s all systems go for Cheltenham.” Kingscliff is a general 6-1 chance for the Gold Cup.
