Limerick boxer Lee Reeves in 'critical but stable condition' after Saturday night knockout

Reeves was rushed to hospital on after being stretchered from the 3Arena ring

Limerick boxer Lee Reeves remained in hospital on Sunday evening, in a “critical but stable condition”, according to the promoters of the fight in Dublin in which he was knocked out by Kildare’s Gary Cully.

Reeves was rushed to hospital on Saturday night after being stretchered from the 3Arena ring.

The 31-year old from Roxboro fought Cully for the BUI Celtic super-lightweight title, and he had been on top in the bout before it concluded in the 10th round with Reeves suffering a heavy knockout.

“Lee Reeves is still in hospital, in a critical but stable condition,” Queensberry Promotions said in a statement issued to Limerick Live. “We will know more in the coming days, and our thoughts and prayers remain with Lee and his family.” Boxing promoter Frank Warren had said earlier on social media: “All our thoughts and prayers are with Lee Reeves and his family at this time as he remains in hospital.

“Everyone at Queensberry is thinking of him and we're in constant contact with his team regarding his condition as we hope for positive news.” Cully also extended Reeves his best wishes after the knockout.

“My prayers and thoughts are with Lee Reeves, hopefully he's OK. He came in there as a big underdog after fighting relatively at a lower level up until now, but he really showed that he can operate at a higher level. Huge credit to him,” Cully said.

Reeves is not only known for his sporting achievements, but also respected in the local community for volunteering with Treaty Suicide Prevention.

The organisation posted on Instagram over the weekend. “Everyone at Limerick Treaty Suicide Prevention is thinking of our ambassador and colleague, Lee Reeves, during this time. We’re all behind you, Lee.”
