It no longer commands the attention or awe that it used to back in the day, now that so many other sports, including the celebration of community that is the All-Ireland GAA club finals, have moved into January that it used to have much to itself.

But last Saturday night out in Tallaght and on TG4 was a reminder how the national basketball cup finals weekend remains one of the most special and enduring events in Irish indoor – and general – sport and how, just like the Dingle footballers, it too has teams and stories with the Kickham spirit of doing it for the honour of the village.
