Hiko Tonosa came up just shy of breaking his Irish record at the Rotterdam Marathon this morning, the Dundrum South Dublin athlete clocking 2:09:52 to finish 12th.

That was just 10 seconds away from the national record of 2:09:42 he ran to finish third at the Dublin Marathon last year. Tonosa went through halfway in a controlled 1:05:04, and began to crank up the pace in the third quarter, covering that 10K section in 30:32, but he fell slightly off that pace in the closing kilometres to clock the second quickest time of his career.
