The week after the cup final is always a dangerous tie for the newly minted champions. No matter what Karl Kilbride or the Liffey Celtics players said in training during the week, the reality is that they won a cup final six days before playing Meteors and the highs that come with that, bring natural lows the following week. Liffey had managed back-to-back incredible performances in the cup against their two biggest rivals but when they needed another this week against a good Meteors team they just couldn’t find it. The spark from last week’s MVP Hazel Finn was absent and in the third quarter, Liffey had another of the spells offensively that have plagued them this year as they managed just eight points while having six turnovers. Meteors in many ways were the worst possible opponent Liffey could have asked for. Hilary Nets' side haven’t lost at home in the league yet this season. Trinity also had a buzz around the first-ever men’s and women’s double header in the University. With that comes energy and with the talent they have that is a dangerous combination. Meteors were excellent overall, and their third-quarter push fuelled by young star Grace Prenter’s sharpshooting was enough to see them through.
