UCC Demons needed the steadying influence of veteran forward Kyle Hosford to navigate the opening defence of their Men's National Cup title, claiming an 84-78 victory over UCD Marian in Neptune Stadium on Saturday to advance to the last eight.

The Cork side had five players on double figures , including Tobias Christensen on 16 points and 11 rebounds. The combined 44 points from Eoin Nelson and Lovre Tvrdic helped keep UCD well in the reckoning throughout but the visitors ultimately came up just short again.
